The Hepworth Wakefield Garden – transforming an unused piece of land into a beautiful free public garden.

The new garden at The Hepworth Wakefield has been designed by internationally renowned garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith and the first phase opened to the public in summer 2019. Katy Merrington, Cultural Gardener at the garden will speak about the creation and development of this beautiful new public space, along with inspiring ideas for creating year-round interest through perennial plantings.

Katy has worked in some of the best gardens in the UK and USA including Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh; and at Logan and Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, USA. In her role as Cultural Gardener at the Hepworth Wakefield, Katy is responsible for developing the new garden, as well as working with the community that use the space and the volunteers that help her to nurture it.
